Hyperactivity

Winner of The  2018-2019 Juilliard Pre-College Composition Competition, “Hyperactivity” is a reflection of my thinking processes. An evolving theme is direct and focused, where it only revolves around 3 notes. Upon having an idea, several surrounding ideas pop in my head. This overwhelming feeling is portrayed through the layering of different tonalities (polytonality), dueling rhythmic patterns (polyrhythms), and interjections. The large interjections further the motif, and miniature textures quote the motif. The overall groove and the sudden shifting of mood connect to paint my hyperactive portrait.
